Another travel cocktail, this time for brunch on the lake or after a sunrise hike, the beautiful Strawberry Gin Bubbles. Bring a couple of gin minis and bitty champagne bottles with you to the beach or lake and you have an afternoon to look forward to.
I’m using Storied Goods flavored sugar cubes to dress up the cocktail again – this time using their Rose Cubes. Rather than just toss in a cube and cover it with champagne, lets take the cocktail game up a notch by pairing strawberry with the rose and adding gin to the champagne. This gives us a fruity, floral cocktail to sip on late in the morning or early afternoon.
Cocktails in champagne flutes are always so beautiful, but I wanted to give the drink a little more color than just a champagne and a sugar cube. So, I added a strawberry or two to the bottom shaker and gently muddled it with the sugar and gin to give it a light pink hue.
I added some lemon juice and muddled again, working to get the bulk of the sugar dissolved before shaking briefly with ice, straining into the flute and topping the cocktail with champagne. It turns the cocktail this beautiful pink color, and topped with a pink rose or strawberry slice it looks gorgeous.
Now, as to the gin you select, be sure to try for a gin with floral elements, or one that contains rose notes, like Nolet’s gin. But, if you’re on vacation and only have what you can find in the local liquor stores, just do your best to locate a quality gin. If you’d rather use bourbon, this is amazing with bourbon, but the color will be more orange and less pink/red.
Travel garnishes can be a challenge, but if you have some strawberries, simple float a slice or two on the top, or cut a slice in the strawberry and perch it on the edge of your champagne flute. If you decide to use rose petals as a garnish, make sure you are using organic roses with no preservatives or insecticides on it. The best way to ensure that is to use a rose you or a friend has grown that hasn’t been treated with any chemicals.
