long john donuts, cocktail with donut garnish

Maple-Caramel Long John Dessert Cocktail

Heather Wibbels
The perfect brinner cocktail, a blend of maple, bourbon, cream and cake flavors combine to create a Maple Caramel Long John cocktail - and you can up the bourbon if you want a little more punch to the cocktail. Be warned, this is a super sweet cocktail, but with enough bourbon can pack quite a punch.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz bourbon
  • 1 oz Buffalo Trace bourbon cream
  • 1 oz Stroopwafel caramel liqueur
  • 1 oz cake vodka
  • ½ oz maple syrup liqueur some maple syrups, not all, will cause this to curdle. still tastes great, but doesn't look so hot. A maple liqueur is safest.
  • Garnish: Long john, maple syrup, cinnamon stick, glazed donut hole, maple glaze

Instructions

  • Combine bourbon, bourbon cream, caramel liqueur, cake vodka and maple syrup in a mixing glass. Fill with ice and stir until well-chilled. Strain into a chilled rocks glass with one large cube. Garnish excessively with your choice of maple syrup/glaze, cinnamon stick, glazed donut holes, what have you. You’d better make two, you’re going to want a second one.

Notes

For Maple Glaze: Heat 2 tablespoons of butter and 1/4 cup of maple syrup until combined. Add in 1/2 cup of powdered sugar. Whisk until perfectly smooth and allow to cool. Use to dip donut holes for garnish, or the entire rim of the glass. Good luck not eating it by the spoonful.
