Want a different twist on a Sazerac? Try adding Chinese five spice bitters. This take uses Corsair's Rymaggedon to add a little smokiness to the cocktail. This is close enough to a traditional Sazerac to for Saz fans to enjoy, and just different enough to make this a new classis in my house:
2 oz Rymaggedon
1/2 oz spiced simple syrup (I infuse cinnamon, a tiny bit of clove, all spice, ginger and star anise)
1 barspoon Absinthe
2 dashes Peychaud's
2 dashes Chinese Five Spice bitters
Garnish: Orange peel and star anise
Combine ingredients in a mixing glass, add ice and stir until well-chilled. Strain into a chilled rocks glass and garnish with an orange peel and star anise pods.
