Sometimes it's just matching the flavor of the base spirit of the cocktail with a couple of complementary flavors and a tweak can become a classic. In this case, I used Woodford Double Oaked as the base spirit, and added a lovely sorghum simple syrup and a dash of chocolate bitters. Chocolate and bourbon remains one of my favorite pairings ever.
2 oz Woodford Double Oaked Bourbon
0.5 oz sorghum simple syrup
2 dashes chocolate bitters.
Add ingredients to a mixing glass and fill with ice. Stir until well-chilled and strain into a rocks glass filled with ice. Preferably one large piece. Garnish however you like to garnish your old fashioned. Since we're using Woodford, the flavors in an orange are an excellent match.
